The original red doors leading into the Sanctuary include two brass and enamel Sanctuary Knockers in the shape of cross with a dove in the center (appropriate for Olive Branch). The handle of each Sanctuary Knocker are emblematic of rope, used in fishing - a symbol used extensively throughout the Christian faith.

The Sanctuary Knocker is an ornamental knocker on the door of a cathedral. Under medieval English common law, these instruments supposedly afforded the right of asylum to anybody who touched them. By 1623, the laws permitting church sanctuary had been overturned by parliament.
